Gene Expression

Since its inception, the Allen Institute for Brain Science has assessed gene expression in the brain of mouse, human, and non-human primate in developing, adult, and aged individuals. Such atlases represent a key step towards understanding the functional genomics of the nervous system and provide a transcriptional baseline for neurogenetic studies of normal and abnormal human brain function. These open resources explore where genes in the brain are expressed in both global and local context, and how this expression changes during development and in aging and disease.  For studies of gene expression in the context of cell types, please visit our cell types page.
